National Day of Prayer

Today, Americans around the country are celebrating the National Day of Prayer to seek God. The National Day of Prayer is long-standing tradition for patriotic Christians. Today, Christian’s will gather to thank God for the freedoms of speech and worship. Today, Christians will gather individually and corporately to ask God to guide the Nation and invoke His forgiveness for the Nation’s shortcomings. Today is a day to intercede, to acknowledge God’s ultimate authority, and to pray for leaders. 

Today, Christians will intercede for American. Intercession involves praying on behalf of other people.  

1 Thessalonians 5:17 says to “pray without ceasing.” As Americans, it is important for Christians to be in prayer for their Country. As you pray corporately or individually for America, here are some verses of intercession.

Zechariah 1:3 Therefore say to them, Thus declares the Lord of hosts: Return to me, says the Lord of hosts, and I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts.

1 Chronicles 16:28 Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength! 

2 Chronicles 7:14 if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Psalm 33:12a Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. Isaiah 60:12a For the nation and kingdom that will not serve you shall perish.

Today, Christians will also pray on behalf of the nation for God’s authority. 

To echo Jesus’s words in Matthew 28:18, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”

Today, Christians will also pray for the leaders of America. Below are some verses to pray for America’s leaders. 

Romans 13:1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 

Proverbs 20:28 Steadfast love and faithfulness preserve the king, and by steadfast love his throne is upheld. 

Proverbs 11:14a Where there is no guidance, a people falls.

Today, with these verses, you can intercede, acknowledge God’s authority, and pray for America’s leaders joining the patriotic tradition of the National Day of Prayer.
